Department of Civil Engineering
Organizes
The Conference
Background
Civil Engineering is one of the prime and oldest Engineering disciplines poised to undergo major transition due to the advancement and innovations in technology / process. The present and budding civil engineers are expected to address more complex and societal challanges from extreme unpredicted climate chage to unprecedented urbanisation through interdisciplinary approach by proceeding towards higher technology integration in all aspects of living.

While studying the recent trends in addressing the above mentioned issues, the key domains that are expected to broaden way, gain momentum and popularity are artificial intelligence which can replace the lower cognitive level architectural skills, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) that offer virtual experience of stepping into planned construction through smart helmets and lenses by overlapping the entire spectrum of buildings and structures before being implemented. Other technological advancements such as Internet of Tings (IoT) that supports in increased productivity through smart sensors for machine to machine communication and GPS tracking, Building Information Modelling (BIM), sustainable design with zero - energy and zero - waste, Drones which help in carrying out safety inspection and surveying of civil engineering projects, 3D printing for production of construction and architectural components by extruding material layer by layer at lower costs fibre optic - sensors which evaluate the stability of load - bearing structure, geo - environmetal techniques for soil improvement and real time monitoring of waste resource systems and water quality through cloud technology and Big data in addition to emerging smart, nano and green materials, intelligent transport system and energy efficient buildings pose great challenges to civil engineers.

Civil engineers have to rise up to the occasion in the context of population growth, requirement of more amenities in the form of buildings, transportation, urban centres, waste management, pollution abatement, natural resources management, ecosystem conservation and above all the threat of disasters and climate change. The conference will address these and several other challenges encountered and the opportunities available to the civil engineers.
Objectives
The Conference is expected to provide a forum for academicians, scientists, professionals and students to interact and share the outcome of their studies and experience. Apart from providing an oppurtuity for transfer of technology, the conference will also provide an avenue to establish contacts with experts from India and Abroad. Selected Papers will be published in peer revieved journals and the rest would be included in the proceedings.
